Introducing: The HERMES Personal Mercury Monitor

The Greek god Hermes, associated with the Roman god Mercury, is the inspiration for the name of 2B Tech's newest instrument, the HERMES Personal Mercury MonitorTM.

The HERMES fills a gap in the market for a truly lightweight, portable mercury monitor.  Weighing in under a pound (0.75 lb., 340 grams), the HERMES puts the capability for making extremely sensitive measurements of airborne mercury literally in the palm of your hand.  It has a detection limit of 0.2 µg/m3 and a linear dynamic range of 0 to 2000 µg/m3 Hg with 0.1 µg/m3 resolution.

If the HERMES looks familiar, it's because it has a close relative in the 2B Tech lineup, the Personal Ozone MonitorTM (POMTM).  Both instruments rely on the absorption of UV light at 254 nanometers.  The HERMES capitalizes on the fact that mercury absorbs more than 1,000 times more strongly than ozone at this wavelength.  Like the POM, the HERMES uses a "U"-shaped cell configuration to achieve a 15-cm path length, resulting in the highly sensitive detection of mercury.
