After cutting the specimen, the next step is mounting. The aim of mounting is to handle small or odd shaped specimens and to protect fragile materials, thin layers or coating during preparation as well as to provide good edge retention. Mounting produces specimens with uniform size so that it is easier to handle in automatic holders for further preparation steps.

Basically, two metods are available:

  • Hot Mounting
  • Cold Mounting

In hot mounting, the specimen is mounted under heat and pressure with a hot mounting press.

Cold mounting is preferred for samples which are sensitive to damage from heat and pressure (like coatings, PCB, etc.) Cold mounting resins are easy to use and require mixing which is then poured into a mould and allowed to set.

ECOPRESS 100 is an easy to use automatic mounting press. It has advanced software with programmable HMI touch screen controls. Robust bayonet closure allows for quick and safe operation. ECOPRESS offers a wide selection of mould assemblies from 25 to 50 mm in diameter. Two mounts can be produced simultaneously with use of an intermediate ram. ECOPRESS 200 available with dual cylinder can produce four mounts at a time offering a perfect solution for labs with high specimen throughput.

VACUMET is a vacuum impregnation instrument, designed for evacuating/remaining the trapped air from specimen and improve/enhance the hardening of the epoxy mixture to the sample’s edges.

VACUMET includes high strength plastic vacuum chamber, vacuum hoses, vacuum gauge and consumable kit (paper cups, epoxy supply hoses, mixer sticks)
